BluePeak Private Capital Fund II has made an initial investment of $12 million in Monty Mobile International, the African hub of telecommunications company Monty Mobile Limited.

The announcement comes over three months after investing $ 16 million in Groupe Centaures, a logistics provider in Côte d’Ivoire, through a sustainability-linked loan structured around greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction targets.

The investment will fund new mobile network operator agreements, increase messaging volumes, and strengthen the digital infrastructure supporting financial services, e-commerce, and other platforms across the continent.

The announcement comes as SMS remains a critical enterprise communication channel across much of Africa, where uneven smartphone penetration and patchy data connectivity mean text messaging is often the most reliable way for banks, lenders, and e-commerce platforms to authenticate customers and deliver important information.

The investment aims to support Sustainable Development Goal 8, which promotes decent work and economic growth, as well as Sustainable Development Goal 9, which focuses on industry, innovation, and infrastructure.

According to the company, the transaction includes efforts to improve Monty Mobile’s governance and gender policies. A Gender Action Plan will aim to increase the number of women in senior management and enhance gender monitoring and accountability within the company, says the company.

Founded in 1998 by Mountasser Hachem, Monty Mobile started in interactive television before expanding into telecommunications in 2005.

The company provides the tools for businesses and digital platforms to communicate directly with customers using application-to-person (A2P) messaging.

This includes sending one-time passwords, transaction alerts, financial notifications, delivery updates, and other messages that support everyday digital activities.

At present, Monty Mobile International operates across 35 African countries through 15 mobile network operator partnerships, reaching an addressable market of approximately 66 million consumers.

“Africa is an important growth market for Monty Mobile, and this investment will allow us to deepen our operator relationships, expand our reach and serve more businesses across the continent. BluePeak brings both capital and a strong understanding of African markets, making them a valuable partner as we continue to scale,” said Mountasser Hachem, founder and CEO of Monty Mobile.

Monty Mobile’s services enable access to financial services, e-commerce and digital platforms through authentication, transaction alerts and enterprise communications.

The company operates across markets including the Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, Senegal, Tanzania and Uganda, many of which are classified as low- or lower-middle-income economies.

“Monty Mobile combines essential digital infrastructure with a scalable, asset-light business model and deep relationships with mobile network operators across Africa. We see a clear opportunity to support the company’s next phase of growth while strengthening the services that financial institutions, businesses and digital platforms increasingly depend on,” said Fulton Shiundu, partner at BluePeak Private Capital.
