WalletConnect has launched WalletConnect Pay in South Africa through Ezeebit, a crypto payment provider for African businesses.

With this move, merchants can now accept stablecoin and crypto payments in store and online, and receive their money in stablecoin or fiat. Settlement is instant.

According to the company the first merchant to go live is The Capital, a hotel and apartment company with 13 locations in South Africa. Its customers can pay from more than 700 wallets.

To mark the launch, customers earn 2% cashback in $WCT, WalletConnect’s native token, on every purchase. Customers can pay with these tokens:

  • Ethereum: USDC, USDT and ETH
  • Binance Smart Chain: USDT and BNB
  • Solana: USDC and USDT

“South Africa has one of the most dynamic digital payments ecosystems on the continent, and WalletConnect Pay through Ezeebit is exactly the kind of infrastructure needed to bring crypto into everyday commerce. We’re glad to have removed every major barrier that stands between merchants, customers, and their first crypto transaction,”said Jess Houlgrave, CEO, WalletConnect.

Founded by Pedro Gomes in 2018, WalletConnect provides digital asset infrastructure for payments, trading and compliance.

The platform connects more than 900 million users and thousands of institutions across 700+ wallets and all major blockchains. It handled more than USD400 billion in transaction volume in 2025.

WalletConnect addresses several issues that have hindered crypto payments. It eliminates payment errors by confirming the exact amount before customer approval, preventing underpayments and overpayments.

The platform also hides network fees from customers, ensuring they only see the final amount without surprise charges.

Merchants benefit from a single integration through Ezeebit, which supports all WalletConnect-compatible wallets, and the payment process remains consistent across different wallets like MetaMask and Trust Wallet.

“African businesses have been asking for a payments solution that works the way their customers actually shop, and that increasingly means crypto. WalletConnect Pay gives our merchants access to hundreds of millions of crypto users without adding complexity to their operations. Launching at The Capital and across their 13 locations is just the beginning; we’re bringing this to businesses across Africa,”said Daniel Katz, CEO, Ezeebit.

Founded by Daniel Katz, Jonathan Katz and David Katz, Ezeebit is a crypto payment provider built for African businesses. Merchants connect once to accept stablecoin and crypto payments in store and online, and can settle in stablecoins or local currency. It operates in South Africa, Kenya and Nigeria.
