Advtech, a leading African private education provider, has acquired a 25% stake in MathU, a South African EdTech company.
The deal deepens a relationship that first began taking shape when MathU’s digital learning platform was deployed across Advtech’s Schools Division under the Advlearn brand in 2023.
“This partnership reflects Advtech’s commitment to combining educational expertise with innovative technology to improve learning outcomes at scale. It strengthens our ability to deliver personalised learning while expanding access to quality education across Africa,” said Geoff Whyte, Group CEO, Advtech.
As part of the acquisition, the Johannesburg-based group gets a seat on MathU’s board and exclusive access to its current and future AI-enhanced learning solutions across all markets. MathU’s digital learning platform currently delivers personalised learning in Mathematics and Physical Science, with an English module set to launch shortly.
Advtech, a Johannesburg Stock Exchange-listed company, is a widely recognised private education and resourcing group with a network of primary, secondary, tertiary, and resourcing institutions spread across southern Africa, Kenya, and Ethiopia. The group operates brands spanning schools, higher education colleges and staffing.
MathU is a South African EdTech company based in Pretoria that makes learning easy across subjects such as maths, science, English and accounting. It also works across settings such as schools, communities, and workplaces. The platform serves learners through three distinct channels: MathU Society for underserved communities, MathU Corporate for workplace teams, and MathU Academy for schools.
As Advtech Group expands its African footprint and invests heavily in digital infrastructure across its school network, digitisation-led student outcomes has become a priority. With the acquisition of a 25% stake in MathU, the group is betting that AI-driven personalised learning will transform student outcomes at scale.
For MathU, the partnership accelerates its commercial trajectory and extends the reach of its platform beyond what’s achievable independently.
“Working with Advtech will accelerate the reach of our technology and bring innovative learning solutions to more students,” said WA Burger, CEO and founder of MathU.
The acquisition comes on the heels of strong growth during the first six months of 2026. During the six months ended June 2026, the group posted interim headline earnings growth of 16% and sees opportunity for further growth through exclusive access to MathU’s AI tools.
