Cybastion plans to invest $75 million in an AI-powered data centre and dedicated power plant in Cameroon, expanding its digital infrastructure footprint across Africa.
The planned investment was announced by the U.S. Embassy in Cameroon on August 27 during the inaugural U.S.-Cameroon Bilateral Economic and Commercial Dialogue in Douala.
The project forms part of $7 billion in new and expanding U.S. investment and trade opportunities announced during the event.
Cybastion’s project will combine a sovereign data centre with dedicated power capacity, designed to meet the growing demand for computing infrastructure, cloud services and artificial intelligence in Cameroon.
The development will be part of Cybastion’s Digital Fast Track platform, which brings together digital infrastructure, cybersecurity, digital solutions, reliable energy and workforce development to support secure and resilient digital ecosystems.
The project is expected to address two closely connected infrastructure needs: high-performance computing capacity and reliable electricity.
By developing the data centre alongside dedicated power generation, Cybastion aims to establish the infrastructure required to support the country’s expanding digital economy and AI adoption.
Ahead of the economic dialogue, Daniel Epee Lea, Cybastion’s Senior Director of Infrastructure Solutions, moderated a high-level panel on August 26 focused on Cameroon’s digital economy, investment climate and technology sector.
The panel brought together Dr. Winfred Mfuh, Technical Adviser at Cameroon’s Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications; Dr. Divine Anye, CEO of Info Pro Solutions; and Ayuk Etta, founder of Mountain Hub.
Discussions focused on opportunities and challenges surrounding investment in digital infrastructure, cybersecurity, digital transformation and AI, as well as ways to strengthen cooperation between the Cameroonian government, local technology companies and international partners.
Cybastion’s planned development in Douala comes as cloud computing and AI drive greater demand for data processing and storage infrastructure across Africa.
By combining digital infrastructure with dedicated energy capacity, the company aims to support the growing computing requirements of Cameroon’s digital economy.
