The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has appointed Olugbenga Agboola, OON, founder and CEO of Flutterwave, as a National Youth Ambassador of the Nigeria Police Force.
The appointment falls under the International Youth Day 2026 National Youth Security, Peacebuilding and Empowerment Initiative.
The appointment was formalised after a Flutterwave delegation visited the Force Headquarters in Abuja on Monday, September 7.
In its official statement, the Force said the role recognises Agboola’s achievements in technology entrepreneurship and his leadership in building Flutterwave into one of Africa’s leading FinTech companies, citing his work in innovation, entrepreneurship and corporate citizenship.
Olugbenga Agboola, founder and CEO of Flutterwave, said, “I am deeply honoured to be appointed as a National Youth Ambassador of the Nigeria Police Force under the National Youth Security, Peacebuilding and Empowerment Initiative. True leadership goes beyond building technology; it requires a deep commitment to mentorship, advocacy for digital responsibility, and supporting the next generation of builders. I am fully committed to lending my voice and technical experience to ensure our youth have the secure, resilient foundation they need to scale ideas into global institutions.”
Flutterwave enables businesses to process local and cross-border payments across Africa and other emerging markets through a single API.
The company has processed over 1 billion transactions worth more than $50 billion, and works with businesses including Uber, Air Peace, Bamboo and PiggyVest.
Flutterwave supports multiple payment methods, including local and international cards, mobile wallets, bank transfers and Google Pay, and has infrastructure in 34 African countries. Its remittance product, Send App, enables cross-border transactions from the diaspora into African countries.
As part of the initiative, Agboola will work with the Force to encourage young Nigerians to pursue legitimate economic opportunities, support peacebuilding, raise cybersecurity awareness, and steer young people away from cybercrime and other social vices.
Inspector-General Olatunji Rilwan Disu stated that the appointment is important for involving young Nigerians in creating safer communities. He also emphasised the need for better technology and digital tools to improve national economic security.
The announcement was made a few days after it was revealed that the company is offering digital payment services for the IPO of Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals, allowing retail and international investors to buy shares online.
