Payaza, the Nigerian payment infrastructure provider, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Lebara Nigeria to serve as the telecom operator’s official payment partner.

However, the terms of the MoU were not disclosed.

The deal will see Payaza provide the payment infrastructure underpinning Lebara’s payment ecosystem as the telecoms brand expands its footprint in Nigeria.

“This partnership marks another exciting step in our mission to build the financial infrastructure that powers Africa’s digital economy. As Lebara expands its footprint in Nigeria’s telecommunications space, we’re proud to provide the secure, scalable, and reliable payment infrastructure that will power their payment ecosystem and support seamless customer experiences,” says Philips Akinyele, CTO of Payaza.

Payaza offers payment APIs and SDKs for businesses, handling international payments, settlements, collections, and payouts. The company positions itself as a provider of financial infrastructure for Africa’s digital economy.

Lebara Nigeria operates under a licensed brand agreement between Lebara and VAS2Nets Telecommunications Limited, which holds the regulatory approvals and manages the brand’s services in the country.

Beyond telecoms, Lebara Nigeria has been expanding its financial services, including microloans, device financing, and internet hubs, alongside initiatives to support the creative economy through cultural and arts events.

“At Lebara Nigeria, our vision has always been to deliver everything our customers need in one box: connectivity, digital services, payments, entertainment, and solutions that make everyday life simpler,” says Teni Stuffman, CEO of Lebara Nigeria.

The partnership connects Payaza’s payment rails with Lebara’s expanding services portfolio, covering both the telecoms side and the financial products the operator is rolling out for its customer base.
