Terra Industries has signed a commercial agreement with Promethean Resources to deploy autonomous surveillance systems at the Nigerian miner’s operations. The systems will protect Promethean’s staff and mining assets.

The agreement was signed in New York at the Nigeria-U.S. Strategic Investment Dialogue, held on the sidelines of the 81st UN General Assembly. Nigeria’s Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr Jumoke Oduwole, and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce were present.

“Mining operators run critical assets in places with thin security coverage and long response times. Our systems will give Promethean persistent surveillance across its sites, so we can autonomously spot threats early, respond faster and keep people safe,” says Terra Industries

Promethean Resources is a Nigerian mining company focused on exploring and processing various minerals, including tin, lithium, gold, lead-zinc, and rare earths.

The company aims to develop local supply chains that link Nigeria’s natural resources to the necessary technical expertise, investments, and markets for responsible development. Their approach involves mineral exploration, project development, and investment in mining and processing.

The Nigerian company collaborate with equipment manufacturers, energy developers, technology providers, and offtake partners to enhance productivity and connect local production to international markets.

However, security is one of the main obstacles for mining investment in Nigeria. Many sites are remote, with limited security coverage and slow emergency response. Terra says its systems will give Promethean round-the-clock surveillance, so threats are spotted earlier and teams can respond faster.

Earlier disclosures on the partnership said the system could include autonomous surveillance towers, unmanned aerial systems and Terra’s Artemis OS platform. Initial deployment was proposed for mining operations in Plateau and Kaduna states.

“This partnership supports the goals of the U.S.–Nigeria Critical Minerals Framework Agreement, including more processing in Nigeria, more skilled jobs and lasting benefits for host communities. We’re proud to help turn that framework into results on the ground,” says Terra Industries.
