Jean-Jacques Maïkere has joined South African money transfer company Mukuru as Group Chief Customer Officer, as the company works to build a remittance-led neobank in Africa.
Maïkere announced the move in a LinkedIn post. He was previously on the group executive committee at Jumia and has also worked at Zipline.
“I am proud and excited to join the team that has built trust and reliability across Africa for more than 20 years, serving 17 million+ customers by offering cross-border transfers to 60+ countries and everyday banking services,” said Jean-Jacques Maïkere, Group Chief Customer Officer, Mukuru.
Led by Andy Jury, Mukuru is a financial services platform located in Southern Africa that is known for providing affordable and reliable services. The company boasts over 13 million customers across Africa, Asia, and Europe.
Having completed over 100 million transactions, Mukuru initially focused on international money transfers and later expanded its services to cover a wider range of financial needs. Currently, the platform operates in more than 50 countries and offers services across over 300 remittance routes.
Customer-centricity remains a top priority says Mukuru, which is why it provides services through both physical and digital channels.
Mukuru offers various services, including Mukuru Funeral Cover and the Mukuru Card. It is one of Africa’s largest money transfer providers, serving emerging consumers. Customers can access Mukuru through WhatsApp, free USSD, the Mukuru App, and its website. They can also get assistance from agents at physical booths, branches, by phone, or via live chat. The contact center supports conversations in 15 languages, often using the customer’s native language.
