Mission Mobile, a South African FinTech that gives mobile network subscribers access to financed smartphones, has received a $30.90 million investment from DNI (DN Invest).

The company uses live cash-flow underwriting to approve a handset purchase in under two minutes, with no credit risk passed on to its mobile network operator (MNO) and retail partners.

Mission Mobile said, “Through our engagement with DNI, we’ve become convinced they’re the right partner for us. Their approach to permanent capital and their involvement in the companies they invest in align with how we want to build Mission Mobile. We chose this path over traditional venture capital because we believe it’s the right partnership for the business over the long term. The systems, distribution, and customer relationships we’re building need room to compound.”

Mission Mobile positions itself as the most efficient pathway for subscribers to obtain financed smartphones, utilising a streamlined digital process that can be completed in just a few minutes, while providing no credit risk for its partners.

Designed specifically for prepaid networks in African markets, the platform emphasises transparency with published pricing and no hidden fees.

Its two fundamental commitments are: first, to enable Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) to experience risk-free, incremental recurring revenue; and second, to provide consumers with access to the latest smartphones, discounted voice and data rates, and rewarding loyalty programs.

The company is also exploring how to extend this into a broader prepaid offering that combines device access, preferential rates, and rewards into a relationship that lasts beyond the next recharge, while keeping the flexibility prepaid customers expect.

The company boasts a high offer acceptance rate, which assists partners in streamlining processing times, managing risk, and increasing revenue.

For consumers, Mission Mobile aims to eliminate slow onboarding and unclear approvals by offering smart matching and real-time affordability checks.

This approach connects users with plans, devices, and services that align with their needs while ensuring a transparent and efficient process.

Over the past 12 months, Mission Mobile developed its essential systems from scratch, including a consumer vetting engine, a billing and payments platform, an account management system, and tools for point-of-sale and onboarding for its retail stores.

The company states that integrating real-time decision-making at the checkout with onboarding, recurring billing, and payment reconciliation across a distributed retail network is complex, but crucial for achieving the intended results for mobile network operators and consumers.

The company added, “We’re particularly interested in the connection between device access, SIM usage and subscriber loyalty. There’s an opportunity to design these together, with better subscriber economics for the MNO and a more compelling proposition for the consumer.”

Mission Mobile plans to use the investment to accelerate its product roadmap and grow its customer base. The company is also expanding its team and is looking to hire people interested in FinTech who want to help scale a consumer platform at the intersection of financial services, telecoms, and physical distribution.

The announcement is a part of DNI’s R2 billion ($122 million) new investment strategy to strengthen its role in expanding access to connectivity, digital services and mobile technology across South Africa.

With the recent acquisitions of Frogfoot, Vox Telecom, and Hypa, DNI has also added KnowRoaming and Mission Mobile to its ecosystem

DNI is one of South Africa’s leading physical SIM distributors and was recognised by all four local mobile networks as the top channel in the informal wholesale market in 2025.

Mission Mobile complements DNI’s mobile distribution and digital services by providing South Africans with affordable handset and connectivity packages available at MNO retail stores.
