Stakpak, the Egyptian-founded startup behind one of the first open-source autonomous DevOps agents, has been acquired by American cloud platform Vercel for an undisclosed sum.
Stakpak was founded in 2023 by George Fahmy with the goal of creating “self-driving infrastructure” using AI to automate software deployment and infrastructure management.
The team at Stakpak developed various tools, including an open-source agent harness, a production-ready DevOps agent, and AI-enhanced security systems, all aimed at supporting autonomous infrastructure management.
The announcement comes a few days after acquiring Ethiopian-founded Better Auth, the open-source authentication startup built by developer Bereket Engida.
This move is part of Vercel’s strategy to expand beyond frontend cloud services and build a platform that allows developers to create, deploy, and manage AI agents.
The Stakpak team will join Vercel as part of the deal to continue developing agentic infrastructure technologies, while the company’s open-source projects will remain available.
The startup spent nearly two years bootstrapping from Cairo before raising venture capital and relocating to San Francisco.
In early 2025, Stakpak raised $500k led by P1 Ventures, with participation from Digital Currency Group, 500 Global, and Instabug co-founders Moataz Soliman and Omar Gabr.
Stakpak aims to reach $100k in annual revenue, focusing on the US market while maintaining its engineering team in Egypt.
