enza, an Abu Dhabi-based payments infrastructure provider to banks and FinTechs across Africa, has closed a $6 million Seed+ round.
The round was led by 4DX Ventures, with participation from the British International Investment (BII), the UK’s development finance institution. Quona Capital and Algebra Ventures, which co-led the company’s $6.75 million Seed round in 2025, have both added to their investments.
“Payments in Africa have moved well beyond cards and are truly omni-channel today, yet the infrastructure on which banks depend has not kept pace. enza enables banks to modernise via a single integration to enza’s platform while allowing banks to retain control of their merchants and their data,” said Daniel Marlo, Managing Partner at 4DX Ventures.
enza was founded in 2023 by a team of payments veterans who previously built the EMP Group, a payment processing business that served more than 180 banks across more than 40 African countries. It provides payments infrastructure to banks and FinTechs across the continent, serving clients across 12 countries, with regional offices in Egypt, South Africa, Ghana, and Nigeria.
Its founders argue that legacy payments infrastructure has failed to keep pace with how money actually moves today, across channels and borders. While payments across Africa have gone omni-channel, the underlying systems that banks depend on have not evolved, and enza wants to close that gap.
The company enables financial institutions to modernise their payment capabilities through a single platform integration, without seeding control over their merchant relationships or business data. Its product portfolio spans in-person payment solutions via enzaPay, an online payment gateway called Conductor, acquirer processing, ATM acquiring, AI-driven fraud detection through enzaGuard, and a margin optimisation tool called enza Optimizer.
“Since our launch, we have been building the payments infrastructure partner African banks and FinTechs have been missing. Our existing investors have seen us deliver, and they have put more capital behind us to accelerate our growth,” said Hany Fekry, Group CEO of enza.
He added, “To have leading FinTech investors and a development finance institution of BII’s standing back that, after looking hard at what we do, is a powerful endorsement. For our clients, it means a partner with the resources and stability to keep investing in their payment capabilities. It also reaffirms our commitment to the transformation of the continent, one payment at a time.”
The capital will be deployed to extend enza’s reach into new African markets, secure the additional regulatory licences required to serve banks and FinTechs in those territories, and expand the company’s product suite to add value to the services it offers.
While enza is a full-stack technology vendor for banks and FinTechs, it sees an opportunity to transform itself into the infrastructure layer for Africa’s financial system. It aims to connect every bank, merchant, and consumer across Africa on a single, modern payments network.
