Flutterwave, the African payments company, has announced a leadership change in its executive team. Morounke Olufemi, currently CFO for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA), will become the company’s new Global CFO.
She takes over from Mitesh Popat, who is stepping down to co-found a new venture. The announcement was made on 22 September 2026 from Lagos and San Francisco.
Flutterwave’s new Global Chief Financial Officer, Morounke Olufemi, commented, “I am excited to step into the global CFO role. Our financial trajectory remains firmly on course. We will continue executing our strategy with a focus on capital discipline, margin growth, and sustainable profitability, while giving global finance leaders total control over their working capital as well as access to multi-currency liquidity and stablecoin settlement. I look forward to working with our global teams to drive long-term value for all our stakeholders.”
Morounke joined Flutterwave in June 2025 as CFO for EMEA, overseeing operations across more than 30 countries. She brings over 24 years of experience in finance, strategy, and banking.
Before Flutterwave, she was Group Chief Financial Officer at Access Holdings Plc, one of Africa’s largest financial services companies.
During her time there, she helped raise $300 million in Additional Tier 1 capital in 2023, led a major rights issuance in 2024 to meet Central Bank of Nigeria requirements, and worked on M&A deals that created the second-largest pension fund administrator in Nigeria.

Flutterwave is a payments company operating across Africa, connecting the continent to the global economy through both fiat and digital assets.
The company has grown through funding rounds and strategic moves, including its acquisition of open-banking firm Mono. Flutterwave says it remains committed to strong financial governance as it enters its next phase of growth.
Last week, Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, appointed Olugbenga Agboola, OON, founder and CEO of Flutterwave, as a National Youth Ambassador of the Nigeria Police Force.
As part of the initiative, Agboola will work with the Force to encourage young Nigerians to pursue legitimate economic opportunities, support peacebuilding, raise cybersecurity awareness, and steer young people away from cybercrime and other social vices.
